Equal opportunity, or health equity, is a central and cross-cutting issue in child and adolescent health, not only in our research and teaching. Children and adolescents from disadvantaged population groups face greater health challenges and are less likely to have access to preventive care and health services. The interdisciplinary research group on health equity in childhood and adolescence, led by Prof. Anna Lene Seidler, is championing this important issue at the University Medical Centre Rostock and the German Centre for Child and Adolescent Health (DZKJ) side Greifswald and Rostock.
The research group has a particular focus on neonatology and, consequently, on the health and health outcomes of newborns. The research group also addresses health equity throughout childhood and adolescence, and explores how health inequities can be identified and reduced across different life stages and care settings.
To this end, we are developing innovative methods to more effectively identify research gaps and health inequities. These include individual participant data meta-analyses (IPD-MAs), which enable us to examine and highlight differences in health outcomes in a nuanced way. In the field of implementation research, we investigate how effective interventions can be successfully translated into clinical practice and made accessible to different population groups. Our aim is to inform guidelines and clinical practice, thereby helping to make healthcare more equitable and responsive to people’s needs. Target groups affected by our research are actively involved in all phases of the research process.
